16 Willow Crescent was a property that Brian and Gail Tilsley proposed to buy in April 1980.
Brian married Gail Potter in the previous November, and their first marital home was with his parents Bert and Ivy Tilsley at 5 Coronation Street. By April of the following year, Gail had grown tired of living under Ivy's watchful eye and had expressed interest in moving out, with Bert proposing they view a house on the newly built Willow Crescent Estate.
After looking around the show home, Gail was adamant she wanted to live there, but Brian was dubious of the sales patter given to them by salesman Peter Cross. Nevertheless, the Tilsleys decided to scrape together the money for the deposit towards the mortgage on the £16,000 house, and Ivy loaned the couple £300 to make up the extra cash they needed for it. Bert was less than impressed when he found out that the money was going to pay for their holiday to Benidorm with the Duckworths, and because they could no longer afford to go, they would have to pay the £60 deposit back to Jack and Vera.
After finding out where the deposit money came from, Brian and Gail returned the £300 to Ivy and Bert during the following month, and instead asked Gail's mum Audrey to ask her new rich boyfriend Alan for the money, but she later confessed that he had since gone back to his wife.
In June, Gail discovered she was pregnant and Brian became increasingly worried that he wouldn't be able to afford the house. After persuasion from Ivy and Bert, Brian backed out and the Tilsleys set their sights on a much smaller property - the one bedroom 5 Buxton Close where they moved into in August.
- The house itself was not shown onscreen, but the Willow Park Estate development is seen in Episode 1991 (30th April 1980).
